Tea Profile
Jin Jun Mei is a black tea from Wuyi Mountains, viewed as one of the most prestigious of all teas in China. This tea has a sweet, fruity and flowery flavour with a long lasting sweet after-taste. Fine Jin Jun Mei is made exclusively from buds plucked in early spring from the tea plants, and requires about 50,000 hand-picked golden buds to make a 500 grams of finished tea.
Origin
Jin Jun Mei is a one of the most difficult teas to produce. A tea farmer can harvest about 2,000 buds a day, so to make about 500 grams of this tea requires the full day’s work of 25 pluckers. It is grown in several places in this part of China, but the rich minerals and terroir of the remote, rocky and sandy soil of the Wu Yi Mountains provides an exquisite depth of flavor. The amount of tea that can be grown here is limited both by the rough terrain, as well as by the area’s designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
