Tea Profile
Commonly known as Blue Tea flowers, Butterfly Flower tea is used for many medicinal purposes in ancient India medicine text. It imparts its blue colour when steeped in warm or hot water, as well as add colour to various foods such as the asian Nasi Kerabu. It is commonly mixed with honey and lemon, to be drank after dinner or a relaxing spa treatment.
Origin
Butterfly flower tea is made from the Clitorea ternatea plant. It has its origins in South East Asia and is also seen in India and China. The moderate climate with high humidity is ideal for growing butterfly flower tea. With pinnate leaves extending to five to nine leaflets, it often grows into a thick foliage. However, as the attractive azure flowers with winged petals and light markings only last 24 hours, harvesting the flowers have to be well-timed.
